This year the legendary brand from Zuffenhausen celebrates its 70th birthday. In 1948 Ferdinand and his son Ferry Porsche showed a small sports car based on the Volkswagen that had been developed by Ferdinand for the first time. The engine was based on the Volkswagen 1131 cc 4-cylinder boxer; the gearbox and steering box also came from Volkswagen. That first 356 was a spyder. It immediately won the first race in which it participated. In August of that same year a coupé followed, 50 units of which were built. The rest is history. Porsche developed into one of the most successful sports car brands of all time, and today too both the new and the old models rank high on the wish list of many an aficionado.
Four years ago Autoworld already devoted a world-class exhibition to the work of Ferdinand Porsche. In this exhibition the emphasis lies entirely on the history of the brand. It is told making use of over fifty unique models and race cars. We can count on the support of not only Porsche Belgium, but also the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen and numerous collectors. The exhibition will open on 14 December and runs until 27 January 2019.
